The four girls and one boy; Mary Ann, Mary Catherine, Mary Magdalene, Mary Margaret and James Andrew were born on September 14, 1963 in the little town of Aberdeen in South Dakota.
They were the first set of quintuplets to survive in the United States.
The Fischer quints and their family were featured regularly in the magazine The Satuday Evening Post for the first few years of the quints' lives. However, the family did not feel comfortable in the public eye, and were rarely seen in the media at all after 1967.
